In a perfect world, the biggest day of your life starts bright and early after a fantastic night’s sleep, with the sun shining, birds tweeting and every single thing – from the violinist to the vol-au-vents – arriving on time.
Of course, this isn’t the perfect world and only the very fortunate manage to get through their wedding day without some sort of mishap. But your heels snapping, make-up smudging and speakers breaking doesn’t mean the day is ruined; far from it. In fact, the odd calamity is all part of the (rather stressful) fun.
Say no to panda eyes and pack a good waterproof mascara in your bridal clutch. It will take up minimal space and come very handy after tears at the altar, during the speeches, or following those laugh-until-you-cry moments with friends. You might think you’ll make it through the day without shedding a tear, but add several splashes of champagne and the culmination of months of hard work into the mix and you may just have a blubbering mess in the midst…
It’s a sad fact that those to-die-for heels that you simply cannot wait to wear will turn against you at some stage of the day and cause your feet some serious pain. When that moment hits, there’s not a lot you won’t do to get your feet out of those heels and into your trusty slippers…but having some comfy flats or flip flops on hand will certainly do the trick too.
Weddings are loooong. Most start at the crack of dawn and end after midnight…which should be plenty of time to fit in everything you need to do. But somehow, it’s not and many just-married couples find they’re still frantic even after they’ve said ‘I do.’ With so much going on, eating can take a backseat, but don’t let hunger ruin your day. Make sure you (or a designated snack stasher) come prepared with a veritable snackshop of bites to eat whenever hunger strikes.
Feel good essentials
If there’s ever a day when you want to feel amazing inside and out, it’s your wedding day. Whether you’re enlisting the help of a professional or doing your own hair and makeup, conduct a practise run some weeks in advance to avoid a major mirror meltdown in the morning. What’s going on underneath your dress is important too; look for bridal lingerie that will keep you comfy and secure, without sacrificing on sexiness. We love these stunning looks…
A sewing kit
A mini sewing kit will come to the rescue in case of any wedding/bridesmaid dress emergencies. Wedding gowns often aren’t the most practical of dresses so there’s a good chance it will suffer from some sort of malfunction, but a needle, thread and a steady hand will soon have that frayed hem or loose bead looking as good as new.
